- 16 August 2007
Elvis fans from around the globe are gathering together to mark the 30th anniversary of his death at his former home, Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. Tens of thousands of thousands of fans are expected to file past Elvis’ grave to pay homage to “The King” who died on 16 August 1977, aged 42. The candlelight vigil is an annual event which began spontaneously a year after his death. Ex-wife Priscilla Presley and daughter Lisa-Marie are also expected to attend. George Klein, a childhood friend of Elvis is expected to host a memorial service at the University of Memphis to mark the anniversary, and on Friday the first officially-endorsed tribute artist contest will take place in his memory.
