Sally Dynevor is "desperate" for her 'Coronation Street' alter-ego Sally Webster to be good at something.

The 48-year-old actress - who made her debut on the ITV1 soap in January 1986 - admits she is very keen for her character to take on a managerial job at Underworld, but jokes she would never be able to work for her.

She said: "Sometimes I desperately want Sally to be successful at something. But sometimes I don't want her to get what she wants because it makes it more interesting.

"She'd be a terrible boss - so bossy and self-righteous. I certainly wouldn't want to work for her!"

However she may get her wish if Sally manages to convince Carla to let her be her business partner.

She told Inside Soap magazine: "Sally wants to focus on something other than a man for a change. She's got the money from the settlement with Kevin and after working alongside Frank she feels she can do more than just be a machinist. Sally really wouldn't be at all happy if the deal fell through.

"It's what she wants and she's already been telling Carla all about the big plans she has to drive business forward."
