Just a day after it was reported that the secret code from Facebook appeared online, opening the door to potential hackers, internet security firm Sophos has warned users that they are giving out personal details to complete strangers. According to senior technology consultant Graham Cluley, users are behaving ‘irresponsibly’ by giving out their email address, date of birth and current phone number. Some even post their full CV online, an open invitation to identity fraud. Mr Cluley refutes claims blaming Facebook’s privacy features, which he deems as often better than competing sites. He points instead to the human factor, in which people are “undoing all that good work through carelessness and being preoccupied with the kudos of having more Facebook friends than their peers”.
