Sir Derek Jacobi has fulfilled a lifetime ambition by appearing in 'Coronation Street'.
The 'I Claudius' actor is a huge fan of the ITV1 soap and was thrilled when he finally got to film a scene for it, in which he appears as a drinker in the background of a scene at the Rovers Return.
Although he has appeared in a huge number of critically-acclaimed films, Derek, 73, has always wanted to be in 'Coronation Street' and his wish was granted when he visited the set in Manchester last week.
A show spokesman said: "We have tried for years to try and sort out a role in the show for Sir Derek but we have never quite managed it.
"We are as big a fan of his work as he is of ours. He is an Equity member, so there was no problem getting him on set.
"It is highly unlikely viewers would spot him but we hope it made his day."
Derek once admitted to an attempt to smuggle himself onto the set with long-time friend Bradley Walsh, who then played factory owner Danny Baldwin.
He said: "I have always wanted to be in 'Coronation Street' but nobody's ever asked me. So, one night I had dinner with Bradley.
"We both got horribly drunk, I told him how much a part in the Street would mean to me, and we hatched a plot."
