Amy Winehouse's dad is backing 'The Voice' contestant Vince Kidd.
Mitch Winehouse got in touch with the hopeful - who is now being coached by Jessie J - to congratulate him after he performed Madonna's 'Like a Virgin' on the BBC One show on Saturday night (31.03.12).
Vince explained: "Mitch contacted me and said, 'You did amazing'."
However, this wasn't the first time the pair had been in contact, as Vince - real name Matthew Protheroe - previously met Mitch at a wedding and was even introduced to Amy prior to her death, who he admits was a huge inspiration in his musical style.
Vince added in an interview with The Sun newspaper: "I met him before at a wedding. I was singing and he was like, 'You sound a bit like my daughter'. I was like, 'I love your daughter' and he said, 'Come to my birthday party and I'll introduce you'.
"I remember the first time I heard Amy, she had such an impact on me. I'm just so grateful that I got to meet her and tell her how much she inspired me."
Meanwhile, 'The Voice' judge will.i.am has caused a stir by not taking on singer Shansel Huseyin on the show, but then approaching her afterwards and asking her to sign to his record label.
An insider told The People newspaper: "This doesn't look good for the BBC. The Voice is supposed to be about focusing on contestants' singing abilities.
"But if Will is rejecting people on the show and then signing them up, it seems that he isn't quite practising what he preaches. It also raises questions about his motives - whether intentional or not - in voting Shansel out."
