BBC One Saturday night game show 'Total Wipeout' has been axed.

The BBC One Saturday night game show - which sees contestants tackle a number of wacky obstacle course challenges - will return for one more series before being taken off TV screens.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "After four very successful series of 'Total Wipeout', and one series of 'Winter Wipeout', the BBC has taken the decision that the next series will be the last."

The show - which is filmed in Argentina and hosted by Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram - often attracts more than 4.5million viewers and fans took to twitter to vent their anger about it being axed.

One wrote: "NOOOOO can't believe Total Wipeout has been axed!! what are the BBC thinking?!?!? #theyobviouslyarentthinking. (sic)"

As another added: "Total Wipeout has been axed, boo at anyone who made it happen!"

Another tweeted: "Oh no - Total Wipeout has been cancelled. A nation mourns... (sic)"

Amanda also took to her account to speak of her upset.

She wrote: "So sad but true. Total Wipeout will end after series 5 later this year. I've loved it SO much, and am SO grateful 2 have been a part of it x (sic)"
