Andrew Flintoff's participation in a new adventure show has allowed him to overcome his fear of the dark.

The 'League Of Their Own' panellist - who is known as Freddie - stars in new Discovery Channel programme 'Freddie Flintoff Goes Wild' which sees him embark on a series of wildlife adventures in Africa, Australia, Asia and North America - but he was "bricking it" at the thought of spending time with creepy crawlies.

Speaking about his phobias, he told BANG Showbiz: "If you could put everything I don't like in one place, the dark and insects, this was it. If you had put the cast of 'The Only Way Is Essex' in there you probably would have had everything I was scared of.

"I was bricking it. I really didn't enjoy it. I don't like the dark. There are things moving and you don't know what's going on. I've never liked insects. It's funny when a TV camera is on you what you can do. I managed to get over my fears after a while. It just became the norm."

The show is part of a new series of awe-inspiring adventure programmes which also sees James Cracknell and Bear Grylls taking on a series of challenges and world record-breaking attempts.

Since appearing on the show, the former England cricketer is keen to take on more challenges in his life.

He said: "I want to do more. Later on in the year I will be cycling from Olympia in Greece to Stratford in London over 21 days to raise money for charity with Lawrence Dallaglio."

'Freddie Flintoff Goes Wild' will be shown on the Discovery Channel on Thursdays from May 24 at 9pm.
