ITV plan BGT-style dog show
ITV are planning to create a new 'Britain's Got Talent'-style show for dogs, with the pet pooches tackling a series of challenges in front of a panel of judges in a bid to win a modelling contract.
ITV are planning to create a new 'Britain's Got Talent'-style show for dogs.
'Top Dog Model' will feature open auditions for potential champion pooches who will take on a number of intelligence and obedience challenges - similar to those on international canine show Crufts - in front of a panel of pooch-lovers, and the winner will land themselves a modelling contract.
A source said: "The challenges are to test their suitability as models -- so they may be tested on working with other animals, intelligence, obedience etc.
"It's all very lighthearted with the devotion between the owners and their pooches at the centre of it."
Dog lovers Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne have been discussed as possible panellists for the ITV programme, as well as Jonathan Ross, whose beloved canine Mr Pickle sadly passed away last June forcing him to cancel filming a Trans-Siberian Railway TV show.
Show bosses believe now is an ideal time to launch a pet talent search series following the onscreen success of a number of pooches, including 'Coronation Street' star Schmeichel and Jack Russell Terrier film star Uggie, who has starred in 'Water For Elephants' and recent Oscar-winning silent movie 'The Artist'.
The insider added to The Sun newspaper: "Never has there been a more apt moment to launch a show like this. With Uggie stealing hearts at the Oscars, Schmeichel being missed on 'Corrie', Gin on 'BGT' and the Duchess of Cambridge's Lupo, Britain loves man's best friend.
"'Top Dog Model' seeks to find a true doggie star -- the new Cindy Pawford, Claudia Sniffer or Elle Macfurson."
