The final 'Doctor Who' episode featuring Amy Pond and Rory Williams' will be shot in New York.

Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill are leaving the BBC One sci-fi show in the next season and their characters' last adventure - an epic battle with the Weeping Angels - will be set in the US city

Executive producer Caroline Skinner revealed the setting for the episode at a panel session at the official Doctor Who Convention in Cardiff, Wales, at the weekend.

Arthur and Karen also took part in the session with Caroline, showrunner Steven Moffat and Matt Smith - who plays the Doctor.

The pair admitted it was sad to be leaving the series but promised fans Amy and Rory's exit will be an emotional rollercoaster.

When asked about the pair's exit, Arthur said: "We've had the most incredible time and it will be really sad when we leave. We had the read through for our final episode last night and it is going to be an amazing piece of television."

In a separate interview, Karen said: "I actually know how she goes now ... I want her to go out in all her glory ... I just hope I can deliver it well."

Jenna-Louise Coleman was announced last week as the Doctor's new companion and she will make her first appearance in this year's Christmas episode.

Meanwhile, Matt has re-affirmed his commitment to 'Doctor Who' by insisting he has no plans to leave for the "foreseeable future".

The 29-year-old actor is currently shooting his third series as the Time Lord and he has no plans to depart from the TARDIS and is instead looking forward to the new episodes, the 50th anniversary celebrations in 2013 and working with his new co-star Jenna-Louise.

He said: "We've got the anniversary coming up, there's another Christmas special to shoot, we've got another season with our new companion coming in, there's a lot to be getting on with before I leave, so ... I'm here for the foreseeable future."

The convention was held at The Millennium Centre and was attended by thousands of fans on Saturday (24.03.12) and Sunday (25.03.12) who got to meet various 'Doctor Who' stars and discover the behind-the-scenes secrets of the show.
