Matt Smith: Jenna-Louise gave most interesting audition
Matt Smith claims newcomer Jenna-Louise Coleman gave the "most interesting" 'Doctor Who' audition he has ever seen
Matt Smith claims Jenna-Louise Coleman gave the "most interesting" 'Doctor Who' audition he has ever seen.
The 29-year-old actor - who portrays the Time Lord in the BBC One sci-fi drama - explained he was on hand when the 'Titanic' star tried out for the role of his alter-ego's companion, and he and show boss Steven Moffat were thrilled will how well she responded to the script.
In an interview with BBC Radio Wales, he said: "It's very exciting news. I was part of the audition process where we met a number of wonderful actresses.
"But I think Jenna responded to Steven's writing in the most interesting way. We're very excited to welcome her to the 'Doctor Who' family."
Jenna will assume her role as the Doctor's trusty companion in this year's Christmas special, but Steven admitted the pairing of the two characters won't be a standard "boy meets girl" story.
Announcing the 25-year-old actress as the series' newest star earlier this week, he said: "It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts, but when we saw Matt and Jenna together, we knew we had our girl. She's funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the TARDIS.
"It's not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it's about to happen. Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that's all you're getting for now.
"Who she's playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters. Even by the Doctor's standards, this isn't your usual boy meets girl."
