Arg: I only did TOWIE for Lydia
James 'Arg' Argent only agreed to be in 'The Only Way Is Essex' to win back the affections of Lydia Bright after they split up for the first time
James 'Arg' Argent only agreed to be in 'The Only Way Is Essex' to win back the affections of Lydia Bright.
The 24-year-old reality star - who split from the blonde beauty in January after a four-year on-off romance - explained while most of the cast members on the ITV2 show were only interested in "fame and money", he agreed to take part in the first series in the hope of rekindling his romance with Lydia.
He explained: "We'd been together for two-and-a-half years and had moved to Marbella together. But we were arguing a hell of a lot, so we broke up and I came home. I had no job and no girlfriend. Then, by fate, I became involved with 'TOWIE'.
"I'll be honest with you, a lot of people go on that show for the fame and money. But for me all I was thinking was, 'I'm going to get Lydia back now'. We got back together on the show."
Arg believes while Lydia initially found if difficult to cope with his rising fame, she soon started enjoying "reaping the rewards" by landing a lead role in 'TOWIE', before eventually calling time on their relationship.
He added in an interview with Now magazine: "In the early days I was the one who was invited to all the big events and made all the good money, which was hard for Lydia.
"But I stuck with her and she started reaping the rewards."
