Q&A with American rock group's bassist Todd Harrell
Mississippi rockers 3 Doors Down are massive in the States, their debut single ‘Kryptonite’ reached number 3 in the Billboard Hot 100 and since then they’ve gone on to score multi-platinum albums. Now they are continuing to secure more fans across the UK and bassist Todd Harrell explains why he’s looking forward to getting back on the road.
How would describe your music to anyone who had never heard 3 Doors Down before?
I would describe our music as, just good ol’ rock’n’roll man, it’s good ol’ rock’n’roll.
What first attracted you to rock music?
When I was in Jr. High and started hearing stuff like Def Leppard, or Motely Crue, Queen, just all the great bands, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd. All those early bands influenced me. And I think you can definitely tell in our music.
What do you think it was about ‘Kryptonite’ that instantly connected with rock fans?
‘Kryptonite’ was just one of those songs, man, that just once you heard it, you know, you had it in your head. It just stuck with you. It’s one of those feel good songs that everybody seems to connect with.
Could you tell us more about the Better Life Foundation?
The Better Life Foundation is a foundation that we started about eight years ago. It’s one of those things that’s amazing to be a part of. It’s amazing to watch something that we do change people’s lives for the better.
Looking forward to playing with Seether as support for this UK tour?
We love touring with Seether. Those guys are an amazing band, we’ve been friends for a while and toured the world together. We are always excited when they join us on the road.
Looking forward to playing Scotland again?
We cannot wait to play Scotland again! The fans in Scotland have been so amazing over the years, we can’t wait to get back and play for everybody.
What can we expect on the night?
When you come to one of our live shows you can definitely tell that we have a good time on stage. Anyone that comes to see us play live, I think they’ll leave going ‘Wow, that was a lot of fun’. So, it’s a lot of fun, we have a good time, and we love doing what we do.
