Des O'Connor lands TV special
Des O'Connor will be honoured with a TV special to mark his 80th birthday
Des O'Connor is to be honoured with a TV special.
The legendary singer-and-presenter will be joined by a host of celebrity guests from the worlds of film, comedy, television and entertainment for the programme, which will mark his 80th birthday.
Des - who turned 80 in January - will film the show at the ITV London Studios later this month.
The special programme will mark the veteran host's return to TV for the first time since he quit as host of 'Countdown' almost four years ago.
Des departed 'Countdown' after two years to return to working in theatre.
He said at the time: "It's been wonderful hosting a programme which is part of TV folklore. I have really enjoyed my two years with the show and I would like to thank all concerned at Channel 4.
"I've made a lot of new friends. But I miss the thrill of stepping out on a live stage for the one-man concerts and the challenge of live TV entertainment-based shows."
Des - who has five children from his four marriages - began his TV career in 1963.
