Andrew Lancel finds it "heartbreaking" to play a 'Coronation Street' baddie.

The actor - who portrays Weatherfield rapist Frank Foster in the ITV1 soap - admitted as a long-standing fan of the show, he finds it difficult to see his evil alter-ego be so cruel to on-screen girlfriend Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor).

Andrew, who will bow out of 'Corrie' when his character is murdered on the cobbles, said: "It's very sad to leave the job but I can't say that I'm sad to leave Frank himself!

"It's heartbreaking as a 'Corrie' fan to do that to Sally, but as an actor it's brilliant."

With Frank having been found not guilty of the rape of his former fiancee Carla Connor - portrayed by Alison King - Andrew thinks his alter-ego needs to get his "comeuppance".

He added in an interview with Inside Soap magazine: "Frank should get his comeuppance. The story has gone down a store and people are still talking about the issue of domestic rape because of it. I'm extremely proud of that.

"What I've learned is that no one person is bigger than those cobbles, and that's what it all goes back to. I'm just comforted to know that 'Coronation Street' is always going to be there."
