Riley Costello is to make a shock return to 'Hollyoaks' this week.
While the hunky pub owner - played by Rob Norbury - fled the village after former fiancee Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) revealed she had been having an affair with his father Carl (Paul Opacic), he will turn up unexpectedly with the couple's son Bobby in tow after Jacquie McQueen pays him a visit to warn him about her sister's wild behaviour of late.
Claire Cooper - who plays Jacqui in the Channel 4 soap - explained: "It's a massive shock for everyone. Sure, Jacqui has been to see him, but even she doesn't know why Riley has come back - it could be for good or bad reasons.
"Jacqui's worried because Mercy shows far more interest in Riley than in her son. The McQueens all notice that she's not behaving in the way a mother should. So Jacqui remains suspicious that all Mercedes wants is Riley - not her poor baby."
Bolshie brunette Jacqui initially visits Riley in the hope of helping her sister - who has turned to escorting in recent weeks - "get her act together", but while she is gone Mercedes tries it on with her boyfriend Rhys Ashworth (Andrew Moss), causing yet more problems for the McQueen family.
Claire added in an interview with Inside Soap magazine: "Jacqui is actually trying to help Mercedes get her act together again so she goes off in secret to visit Riley, and asks Rhys to keep an eye on Mercedes while she's gone. That's when Mercy tries it on with him!
"Rhys tells Jacqui that Mercedes tries it on, but he turned her down. Jacqui wholeheartedly trusts him, and knows what state of mind her sister is in. So she goes straight round to see Mercedes and lays into her. She basically wants to boil her sister in a pot!
"She's given Mercedes chance after chance, and feels that she doesn't deserve anything any more. Their relationship is very much on the rocks."
