Kym Marsh to star in Corrie musical
Kim Marsh hs signed up to play Elsie Tanner in the 'Coronation Street' stage musical.
Kym Marsh is to appear in the 'Coronation Street' musical.
The 35-year-old singer-turned-actress - who currently stars as factory manager Michelle Connor in the ITV1 soap - will portray 'Corrie' legend Elsie Tanner for two nights when 'Street of Dreams' opens in Manchester's MEN Arena next month.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "It's a big ask, especially as her fiance Jamie Lomas is in LA at the moment, but Kym is looking forward to getting back to her first love, which was always singing, and has decided she will put in the extra hours. Elsie is one of the main characters so it was vital to get someone really strong. We are over the moon."
Elsie - who was played on the show by Pat Phoenix from 1960 to 1974 - was on of the show's original characters and viewed as among the most iconic in the programme's history.
As well as Kym, current 'Corrie' actor Bill Roache - who has played Ken Barlow since the show began - will appear in the musical alongside Weatherfield legends Julie Goodyear and Kevin Kennedy, best known for playing Bet Lynch and Curly Watts respectively.
Talk show host Paul O'Grady is the musical's narrator.
