Charlie Brooks is quitting 'EastEnders' for six months to take part in 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

The actress - who won the Christmas special of the celebrity dancing show in December - will bow out of her role as Janine Malloy in the BBC One soap in August so she can concentrate on her aim to win the glitterball trophy.

A BBC insider said: "It's more or less a done deal. Charlie would be a dream signing for 'Strictly'. She's high-profile and popular and judging by the Christmas special, she has natural ability."

Charlie has previously admitted she would love to follow in the footsteps of former 'EastEnders' stars Jill Halfpenny and Kara Tointon - who have both won 'Strictly' in the past - and take part in the main show, but she could never find the time due to her six days a week commitments on the soap.

She said: "It would be fantastic to do the whole show but 'EastEnders' is a six-days-a-week job. I've seen how difficult it is to juggle both but it would be an amazing opportunity."

Janine is set to leave Walford after giving birth, and show bosses are promising plenty of "unexpected twists and turns" along the way.

Asked what is coming up for her character in 'EastEnders', Charlie recently said: "Baby. I think that's about all I can say really as that's all I know. I've got six months off in August so we're having the bump, but I won't have to deal with prams and stuff in extra small doors on the set."

A spokesperson for the BBC One soap told The Sun newspaper: "Charlie will be taking a break from 'EastEnders' later this year. Over the coming months there will be a lot of unexpected twists and turns and the story is bound to be explosive."
