Crate Digging: The Riddim Tuffa Crew
- The List
- 2 February 2012
Edinburgh based duo Adham and Frontline Selecta pick some tunes prior to their Wee Dub Festival set
Last year was a really good year for us as we managed to launch our own label and put out a few records. Riddim Tuffa feat Little Kirk ‘Kill Them Out’ (Tuffa Dubs) is a regular stamper in our DJ set. The groovy bass and amazing vocals from Kirk is a perfect example of what we try to achieve in our productions at the moment.
Our good friend Diegojah also had a few great tunes out in the last couple of months but the remix from Conscious Sounds ‘Dancehall Sweet’ (Digi-kal) is a must have in every record bag for any serious selecta.
Mungo’s HiFi are probably the hottest act at the moment on the UK reggae/dub soundsystem scene and they have proved to be the Champion Sound with many wicked releases over the past few years. Their Forward Ever EP (Scotch Bonnet Records) is a blend of amazing artists all over their own top notch riddims and is an absolute pleasure for any reggae, dub or dancehall lover. Our favourite track from the album must be Charlie P ‘Skidip’ on the brilliant version of the famous ‘Billie Jean’ riddim.
Another heavy dub 12” vinyl we have to include is UK-based MC Danman ‘Wicked Haffi Run’ (OBF). Lightning and thunder is probably the most suitable description for this amazing piece of work.
Finally Robert Lee ‘Battlefield’ (Tuff Scout), he’s a veteran signer from Jamaica who currently lives in London and has recently been flashing some incredible tunes and deserves a place in our top five due to its enormous bassline and skanky vibe.
Riddim Tuffa play the Wee Dub Festival, Various venues, Edinburgh, Fri 3–Sun 5 Feb.
