Britain's Got Talent's audition process it the "longest ever" this year because Simon Cowell is determined to find a star.
Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, co-hosts of the ITV1 show, explained the music mogul has been giving them and his fellow panellists - David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden - a "really tough time" because he is "going all out" to find a global superstar.
Speaking at the National Television Awards at London's The O2 last night (25.01.12) - where they picked up the Entertainment Presenter award - Dec told BANG Showbiz: "Simon is probably, don't tell him, but he's probably the best talent show judge in the world and he's really up the stakes this year.
"He wants to really find a star and he's going all out to do that. He's giving the acts a really tough time. Well, he's giving us all a tough time.
"We finished at five to midnight the other day - it's been the longest auditions we've ever had because we wants to see people again and again, some people have done three songs. He's determined to find a global star this year."
Ant believes last year's show - which was won by Scottish singer Jai McDowall - could have featured a better standard of contestants, but he is confident the new-look panel will find some stars to "rectify" 2011.
He explained: "I think it's going to be a good year. We found talent last year but I think there's better talent out there. Simon said himself he thought the judges didn't find enough good talent last year and that's probably right but he wants to rectify it this year and I think he will."
Dec added: "From day one the judges have hit the ground running. They just all really get on. David is brilliant, he's really mischievous. He's winding Simon up a treat. Alesha is brilliant. She's feisty, she really knows what she's talking about and she really knows what she wants.
"Amanda is brilliant and we know her because she's been there since day one."
