BBC One show 'MasterChef' will return next Tuesday (17.01.12) with a new format.

'MasterChef's eighth season will feature a new format.

The BBC One show will see 24 contestants chosen from a selection of amateur chefs who are tasked with cooking a dish for judges Gregg Wallace and John Torrode, with the group then whittled down to 12 via a series of challenges including the infamous invention test.

John said: "It's a new year, a new 'MasterChef', bundles of talent, huge amounts of potential, amazing cooking - now the fight can begin."

Gregg added: 'MasterChef' is back and the eighth series is very exciting. We've got some fantastic talent cooking their hearts out in some truly outstanding places. As we know, cooking does not get tougher than this."

Bar manager Tim Anderson was crowned the series' youngest-ever winner in April 2011 when he wowed the judges with his inventive cooking to clinch the title ahead of rivals Tom Whitaker and Sara Danesin.

Upon winning Tim said: "I never thought I had a chance to beat Tom or Sara. It really is quite humbling to have come out on top. Humbling but super awesome at the same time. It is such a good feeling. I'm very proud."

'MasterChef' returns to BBC One on Tuesday (17.01.12) at 9pm.
