Emmerdale's Kelvin Fletcher insists his alter-ego's affair with Debbie Dingle is "not about sex".
The 27-year-old actor - who plays Andy Sugden in the ITV1 soap - explained the former lovers first bed each other in the hope of conceiving another child to potentially act as a bone marrow donor for their seriously ill daughter Sarah.
However, Andy's emotions quickly change and he is "hit with Cupid's arrow" over Debbie (Charley Webb), despite being in a relationship with Alicia Gallagher (Natalie Anderson).
Kelvin explained: "It's not about sex. He's desperate for Sarah's sake, but afterwards Andy's confused. He's suddenly hit with Cupid's arrow and he is feeling something for Debbie.
"It's as if they were making love not just having sex. The Debbie thing has thrown him for six."
Eventually, the confused farmer is going round to Debbie's house at "every opportunity" and becomes increasingly jealous of her partner Cameron Murray (Dominic Power).
Kelvin added in an interview with Soaplife magazine: "Andy starts going round to Debbie's at any and every opportunity. No one knows that they slept together. Andy hasn't told Alicia and Debbie hasn't told Cameron.
"He's going to become more and more jealous of Cameron and, in his deluded state of mind, might think Cameron should know about him and Debbie."
