'Downton Abbey' has been slammed as "sexless" by 'Upstairs Downstairs' star Neil Jackson.

The hunky actor - who portrays chauffer Harry Spargo in the BBC remake of the period drama - claims his co-stars Laura Haddock and Keeley Hawes are much better eye-candy than the likes of their ITV1 rivals Michelle Dockery and Amy Nuttall.

He said: "The women in 'Downton Abbey' don't compare to the women in 'Upstairs Downstairs'. Ours are stunning. We've got Laura Haddock, Keeley Hawes, Claire Foy... beautiful women. Laura, who plays Harry's love interest Beryl Ballard, is particularly beautiful.

"If Angelina Jolie and Keira Knightley had a love child, it would look like her.

"From the little I've seen of 'Downton Abbey', that's a fairly sexless show."

Neil has also promised this year's series of 'Upstairs Downstairs' will take the show's raunchiness "up a notch", with BBC viewers set to be shocked by the "sexual nature" of the storylines.

He told The Sun newspaper: "There's more fraternising between downstairs and upstairs. The love scenes are as raunchy as you can go with the BBC at 9pm on a Sunday.

"Last year chauffeur Harry had some scenes with Lady Persie and people said they were incredibly steamy. If people thought that was steamy, they're going to be surprised by this series - because it takes that up a notch.

"I have several steamy sexy scenes which are beautiful and will set housewives a-flutter. And there are entire storylines I'm not involved in that will have audiences' mouths agape from just the shock and audacity of the sexual nature."
