Jennifer Metcalfe has never believed in Santa Claus.

The 'Hollyoaks' actress - who plays Mercedes McQueen in the Channel 4 soap - can't remember a time when she thought Father Christmas was real after one of her teachers told her he wasn't when she was a young child .

She said: "I can't remember ever believing in Santa. Apparently a nursery teacher told me he didn't exist and my mum went mental."

Despite not believing in the festive favourite, the 28-year-old beauty - who is dating 'Dancing On Ice' star Sylvain Longchambon - still loves the Christmas period and particularly enjoys indulging in one too many alcoholic tipples.

When asked what her favourite thing about Christmas is, she replied: "Getting drunk. It's the only day of the year when it's OK to start drinking at 11am. Everyone gets merry. It's brilliant."

Jennifer is planning a family affair in France this Christmas, but she has warned Sylvain not to embarrass her like he did last year.

She told Now magazine: "Last year, my boyfriend Sylvain invited me to France for Christmas. We'd only been together a few weeks and there were 25 of his family there - but we couldn't communicate very well as I didn't speak French.

"Sylvain made me twirl a kitchen foil tube like when I was a baton twirler with the majorettes. It was so embarrassing. I b*******d him later. My mum and her bloke Roger are coming too this year - that'll be funny."
