Downton Abbey to receive Essex makeover?
Siobhan Finneran is eyeing an Essex-style makeover for her 'Downton Abbey' alter-ego, as she is fed up with O'Brien's dowdy appearance
Siobhan Finneran is eyeing an Essex-style makeover for her 'Downton Abbey' alter-ego.
The 45-year-old actress - who plays miserly maid Sarah O'Brien in the ITV1 period drama - is fed up of her character's dowdy appearance and wants her look to be livened up with false eyelashes and red lipstick.
She told BANG Showbiz: "I think it's time O'Brien discovered a pair of false eyelashes and a bit of red lippy. That could be paired with a new frock."
However, Siobhan admitted she is nervous about the impending festive season because thanks to her alter-ego now being dubbed for Spanish audiences due to the worldwide success of 'Downton Abbey', her family who live in Madrid now believe she is fluent in the language.
She said: "My cousin's kids actually think I can speak fluent Spanish because of the show, so I'm delighted with that.
"They've been watching it in Madrid and she called me and said, 'You're going to get a big shock at Christmas because they'll expect you to speak fluent Spanish'."
Rob James-Collier - who plays treacherous Thomas in the show - quipped: "Whoever it is that does the voiceover for my character has got an infinitely sexier and generally deeper voice than mine!"
Set over the festive period in 1919, the two-hour 'Downton Abbey' Christmas Special will be on ITV1 at 9pm on Christmas Day (25.12.11).
