Corrie's Eileen Grimshaw to care for lover's wife
Coronation Street's Eileen Grimshaw agrees to care for her lover's wife Lesley - who has severe dementia - so he won't have to give up his job
Coronation Street's Eileen Grimshaw will become a carer for her lover's wife.
The factory worker - played by Sue Cleaver - offers to step in when fireman Paul Kershaw (Tony Hirst) tells her the assistance he gets for spouse Lesley, who suffers from severe dementia, is to stop, meaning he could have to quit work to look after his partner.
Paul tells her: "It looks like I'll be having to cope on my own. I may even have to leave the service."
Eileen then offers to look after Lesley while Paul is working, but soon realises she has taken on more than she can cope with.
However, according to the Daily Star newspaper, she tells pals: "As long as Paul needs the help of his friends, then I'll be there for him."
Tony recently opened up about his character's secret marriage, saying caring for his sick wife has left him desperate for affection.
He said: "I can't tell you what's been going on, but I can tell you that Paul has been desperate for some company and affection.
"When he's with Eileen, it's like some sanctuary from the rest of his life - his focus is on her entirely. But the whole situation has got a little bit out of hand now. There is lots more drama to come - but I'm definitely on Paul's side."
