'It Takes Two' host Zoe Ball says she feels like a mother to the 'Strictly Come Dancing' contestants and is loving working on the spin-off show

Zoe Ball feels like a "mum" to the 'Strictly Come Dancing' contestants.

The 41-year-old star - who competed in the dance contest in 2005 - presents spin-off programme 'It Takes Two' and says fronting the show feels like "coming home".

She said: "I feel like the show's mum. It does feel like a family here. And being back on 'Strictly' has felt like coming home."

Despite her years of experience, Zoe had to do her first screen test in 17 years before she landed the presenting job and was convinced she wouldn't land the hosting role because of her age.

She told the new issue of Red magazine: "It was terrifying. I was like, 'There is no way I'm going to get it, I'm too old, blah blah blah.' Then my agent rang, and said, 'I've got news.'

"I was eating a bag of chips outside the Hammersmith Apollo, about to go and see Paul Simon, and suddenly - oh my God!"

Zoe admitted she feels much older since turning 40, and recognises that many other female presenters, such as Holly Willoughby and Claudia Winkleman, are much younger than she is.

She said: "I'm older than the Hollys and the Claudias now. It's a funny age, 40, you do suddenly feel a lot older.

"My twenties were amazing. My thirties were all highs and lows. But my forties... I think I'm going to really enjoy my forties. Yes, you start thinking, 'Oh God, my face is sagging', but it's all about learning to embrace it and accept it."

The full interview with Zoe Ball is available in the current issue of Red magazine, which is out now.
