Patsy Palmer reveals miscarriage ordeal
Patsy Palmer has revealed she recently suffered a miscarriage but says returning to work on 'EastEnders' has helped her through her ordeal.
Patsy Palmer recently suffered a miscarriage.
The 39-year-old actress - who has son Charley, 19, from her first marriage, an Fenton, 11, Emilia, 10, and Bertie, who turns one on Wednesday (07.12.11), with current spouse Richard Merkell - feared she wasn't "strong enough" to carry another child when she realised she had fallen pregnant during the summer but says the whole family were shaken when a scan revealed she had lost the baby.
She said: "We spent most of summer in Spain and I was so happy and relaxed that I fell pregnant.
"At first I was excited but, deep down, I was fearful that I wasn't physically strong enough. I've had three Caesareans and, with Fenton and Bertie, two difficult births but my doctor said I'd be fine. Richard and the kids were also thrilled and so I thought, 'Here we go again.'
"Then, at my nine-week scan in October, they told me I'd lost the baby. We don't know why. But it shook us all. It was especially sad for the kids and I've had to deal with the fallout from that."
Patsy slipped into depression following her miscarriage, but says returning to work on 'EastEnders' - in which she plays Bianca Butcher - has helped her through the tragedy.
She added in an interview with Britain's HELLO! magazine: "It was difficult at first but everyone's been so supportive.
"It's like having another family. As much as I worried about leaving Bertie, going back to work pulled me back from depression.
"I've actually missed Bianca. It feels good to be back in her shoes."
