ESG (4 stars)

South Bronx Story 2

(Soul Jazz Records)

While the past year has seen much blathering about the Nu Rave scene and its various spin offs, many have been quick to forget that dance rock first came into existence back when many current bands were still playing hopscotch. New York’s ESG are an influence that have certainly made their presence felt in the music of bands like New Young Pony Club. This collection of rarities from the group’s 25-year career offers a channel into their sound for those already softened up by Nu Rave with ‘Erase You’ and ‘No Good’ among the highlights.

Euan Nielson and Duncan Harvey play electro, indie and pop.
