Charley Webb has defended her 'Emmerdale' alter-ego's "saviour sibling" storyline, insisting she would do "anything" to help save her own son in real life.

The 23-year-old actress - who plays mother-of-one Debbie Dingle in the ITV1 soap - has seen her character controversially planning to give birth to another baby so the little one can provide matching bone marrow for her critically-ill daughter Sarah.

However, Charley - who has an 18-month-old son, Buster - maintains she would do exactly the same thing if she was in a similar position.

She: "I know it's a controversial issue and that some people are against the idea of saviour siblings, but it's all about individual choice. I hope the majority of viewers will see why Debbie feels she needs to have another child to save Sarah and also ask themselves, 'What would I do?'

"I think it's positive that we are posing these questions and making people think. I'm confident most people will understand that when it comes down to saving your child's life, you will do whatever it takes.

"Personally, I wouldn't care what it took. I would do absolutely everything and anything to save my child."

Since giving birth to Buster - Charley's son with 'Emmerdale' co-star Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe in the soap - the blonde actress admits she can now relate to how Debbie feels about the difficult decision she faces.

She added in an interview with The Sun newspaper: "The powerful love for your child is completely different to any other sort of love. Buster has changed my life in every way and I would go to any lengths to protect him.

"Because of that I can relate to Debbie and what she's going through."

Debbie has persuaded ex-boyfriend Andy Sugden (Kelvin Fletcher) to father another child in a desperate attempt to help Sarah - but she will face a setback when the hospital refuses them IVF treatment in tomorrow's (17.11.11) episode.
