Artem Chingvintsev forced out of Saturday's Strictly
Artem Chingvintsev won't be able to dance alongside partner Holly Valance on Saturday's (12.11.11) 'Strictly Come Dancing'
Artem Chingvintsev won't be able to dance alongside partner Holly Valance on Saturday's (12.11.11) 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The 29-year-old hunk - who fractured a bone in his spine while rehearsing for the BBC One show last week - could end up "paralysed" if he performs this weekend, meaning fellow professional Brendan Cole, who was eliminated from the competition last week, will step in to his shoes.
Artem said: "I'm sad not to be dancing with Holly this weekend, but I'm grateful that Brendan is quickstepping in to fill my dancing shoes, and the two of them will be fantastic. I've worked with them all week choreographing the routine, and it will be a great one to watch on Saturday.
"I asked the doctor what could be the worst thing that could happen to me if I danced and he said, 'You could be paralysed'."
While Holly - who will perform a rumba to Will Young's 'Leave Right Now' alongside Brendan - is "disappointed" not to be dancing with Artem this weekend, she is hoping her new pairing with the New Zealand-born star will bring something "new and exciting" to the competition.
She said: "I'm obviously disappointed I won't be dancing with Artem this weekend, but his wellbeing is very important to me, and Brendan is an awesome guy and we're working hard to bring something new and exciting to this Saturday's show."
Brendan added: "I'm extremely happy to be asked by Artem to stand in for him this week. It is never nice under the circumstances but I'll do my utmost to help him and Holly out and I'm really excited to have the opportunity to dance with Holly."
