The 'X Factor' judge - who is mentoring Frankie Cocozza, Marcus Collins and Craig Colton on this year's show - admitted he likes to unwind with an alcoholic beverage following the "nerve-wracking" experience of filming a live TV show.
He said: "We ask for a couple of bottles of red wine after the show for a little chill out. You can watch out for it this weekend - I have a mug on 'The Xtra Factor' and it looks like I've got tea in it, but it's actually a little glass of red wine.
"It's a hell of a nerve-wracking event on Saturday night and when it ends it does feel as though you've been on one of those really fast rollercoasters in Blackpool."
The Take That singer also admitted while he does worry about the show's resident lothario Frankie - who has been spotted out on the town on a number of occasions and claims to have bedded 69 women - he doesn't want to have to tell him what to do.
During an interview on BBC Radio1's 'Chris Moyles Breakfast Show', Gary added: "I am and I'm not worried by Frankie. He feels the need as an 18-year-old lad to go out a couple of times a week and let his hair down. I really don't want to have to tell him what to do.
"We've never tried to sell Frankie as the best singer in the competition, but he has a presence on stage and people are voting for him. We know his limitations and we're just trying to find a foundation for him."
