Rob James-Collier is to take on the male lead in 'Love Life'.
The 'Downton Abbey' actor - who shot to fame appearing as Liam Connor in 'Coronation Street - will appear alongside Andrea Lowe in ITV1's upcoming three-part comedy drama, which is said to be a "warm, comic tale of love, romance and family".
Rob will portray Joe, who under pressure from his girlfriend Lucy - played by Andrea - took off on a round-the-world adventure, only to return months later to learn is former flame is not only married to someone else, but pregnant.
However, rather than being happily married as she claims to be, Lucy is actually living with her father Will (Gregory Fisher) and eventually reveals the father of her unborn baby is her ex-boss Dominic (Alexander Armstrong), who for years has been struggling to conceive a child with his wife Penny (Sophie Thompson).
When Joe finds out the truth, he tells an unsuspecting Dominic - who had a brief affair with Lucy - he is the father of the unborn child, which could have potentially disastrous consequences.
A spokesperson said: "He doesn't know that Lucy is pregnant. Until Joe tells him. So, this is the story of four people - and one baby.
"Funny, passionate, warm and knotty, this is the tale of how good people come to terms with the trials of love."
