Coronation Street's Peter Barlow tells Carla Connor he will leave wife Leanne for her after they sleep together at Christmas.

Coronation Street's Peter Barlow will offer to leave his wife for Carla Connor this Christmas.

The boozy bookmaker- played by Chris Gascoyne - finally sleeps with the factory boss over the festive season and following their night of passion, he declares his intention to end his marriage to Leanne.

He tells her: "I've fought this for months Carla, but I can't fight it any more. I've fallen in love and I want us to be together."

However, when he tells Leanne (Jane Danson) he wants to leave her, she refuses to give up without a fight.

She tells him: "I love you Peter and I'm not going to give up on our marriage just like that.

"When I married you it was for better or worse and I'm going to fight until my last breath to keep us together."

Peter gives in to her impassioned plea, prompting Carla (Alison King) to break off their affair when he tells her he can't leave his wife.

However, she eventually changes her mind, telling Peter she will "make do" with what they have together.

The turmoil could even make recovering alcoholic Peter give in to his old demons once again.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "Things are about to hot up for Peter. His turmoil will result in him being tempted to fall off the wagon and things will come to an explosive head over the Christmas period."

Meanwhile, ITV1 soap bosses have signed a product placement deal with Nationwide Building Society, with their cash machines set to appear in Dev Alahan's shop as part of the first-ever contract of its type in a major British soap.

Nick Price, from MPG Media Contacts, who brokered the deal, said: "This is the first product placement deal for one of ITV's flagship peak-time shows, and we believe it will be the tipping point for a wave of new product placement deals over the coming year.
