Janet Devlin refuses to compromise herself to achieve 'X Factor' success.
The 16-year-old singer - who is mentored by Kelly Rowland on the ITV1 show - explained she is determined to retain a sense of herself throughout the competition, and refuses to wear clothes she doesn't like or sing tracks she feels don't sit well with her voice.
Janet exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I'm definitely still retaining a sense of myself throughout the competition.
"I won't wear things that I don't like and I refuse to have my hair in a particular style if I don't think it would look right. I don't like having my make-up changed too much, I won't sing a song I don't like.
"I just don't want to compromise myself. The motto I've had since I came on the show was, 'When it comes to music, you never compromise' and I've stuck by that."
The Irish hopeful - who performed a rendition of The Police's 'Every Breath You Take' on Saturday night's (29.10.11) Halloween-themed show - admitted she has already shunned "loads" of songs that she has deemed "a bit cheesy".
Janet added: "The producers know how much music means to me so they don't really try to change my mind if they can see I'm not going for it. They definitely know what they're talking about, but sometimes the songs just don't sit right.
"Kelly likes me to be open-minded but she lets me choose. There's loads of songs I've said no to, I said no to Cyndi Lauper 'Time After Time' because I thought it was a bit cheesy. I just told them I couldn't do anything with it. I've chosen every song I've performed so far."
