Karen Gillan would rather her 'Doctor Who' alter-ego Amy Pond dies than becomes a recurring character in the BBC One sci-fi show
Karen Gillan wants her 'Doctor Who' character Amy Pond to die.
The 23-year-old beauty - who has starred as the Time Lord's assistant alongside Matt Smith since 2010 - would prefer her alter-ego to pass away in the BBC One sci-fi show rather than become a recurring character and appear "every so often".
She said: "Death would be an option. I don't want Amy to pop up again every so often, because for me it would take away from the big, emotional goodbye."
The flame-haired actress admitted the next 'Doctor Who' series could be the last one for Amy - and she wants her alter-ego's stint in the show to be remembered as a "good one".
She added in 'Doctor Who: Brilliant Book': "Once she's gone, she's gone. I want people to remember the Amy Pond era as a good one."
Karen admitted she has changed her views on how to approach motherhood after playing the mum-of-one, who gave birth to daughter Melody in the second series before the tot was later revealed to be River Song (Alex Kingston).
She explained: "I've always said, 'I'm going to be a cool mum. I'm going to let them do their own thing.'
"But as I get older and as I pretend to be a mother in 'Doctor Who', I realise that I am actually quite strict. I will be a lot more overprotective than I thought I'd be."
