Cheryl Fergison's shock at EastEnders axe
Cheryl Fergison was ''shocked'' to find her alter ego Heather Trott was being written out of 'EastEnders' after five years on Albert Square
Cheryl Fergison was "shocked" to find out she was being written out of 'EastEnders'.
The cuddly soap star was upset to learn her contract would not be renewed after five years of playing unlucky-in-love Heather Trott, and asked bosses not to reveal to her how she exits the BBC One show because she was worried she would give the secret away.
She said: "I have to be honest, I was shocked when 'EastEnders' told me they weren't renewing my contract.
"I said, 'Thank you for having me and please don't tell me how I go'. I know everyone's going to ask me and I won't be able to keep quiet, so I just want to find out when I get the script."
Cheryl admitted she is baffled as to why they have written her cheese-loving alter ego out of the soap, and has no inclination as to whether the door will be left open for her return.
She added to The Sun newspaper: "I guess Heather is like Marmite - people either love her or hate her. I don't even want to know if I'll be killed or if the door will be left open."
Cheryl has now set her sights set on appearing on ballroom show 'Strictly Come Dancing' in the hope of providing some comic relief to the series, like former politician Ann Widdecombe.
She said: "I'd like to do other things, maybe some presenting, maybe 'Strictly'. I think I'd be the Ann Widdecombe of the contest, but there's definitely no harm in trying."
