Dappy to 'break barriers' with solo album
Dappy has vowed to break barriers with his debut solo album and says wants to inspire people with his music
Dappy's solo album will be "barrier breaking".
The N-Dubz star - who scooped the Best Video award for his Tinchy Stryder collaboration 'Spaceship' at last night's (05.10.11) MOBO Awards - wants to help people with his music but warned there will still be controversial lyrics on the record.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "It's going to be barrier-breaking, anthemic, power to the people, never give up on yourself music.
"I'm going to help people who've felt low in life by showing them the positives. I've found the positives in my life, that's why I have the track 'No Regrets'.
"A lot of tracks have no rapping, it's just me at the piano and acoustic guitar - but I'll keep a few bangers for the hip-hop heads.
"A lot of people in hip-hop and R 'n' B are narrow minded, too afraid to expand their knowledge of music, that's why there's so much bubblegum rap out there."
Dappy, 24, also says he has matured because he is worried about competition from fellow rappers Tinie Tempah and Example.
He explained: "People have this image of me from N-Dubz that we're just for youngsters but now I can be the mature person I always wanted to be.
"There's so much good competition - Wretch32, Tinie, Example - that the only way to stay on top is being honourable and being the best that I can."
