Paul rated most likely pop star name

  • 27 July 2007

A study claims that successful pop stars are more likely to be called Paul than any other name. Yahoo! Music found that the moniker was responsible for 57 number one singles since the UK Chart started in 1953. However Paul is no longer listed as one of the UK’s top 100 boys’ names. The research found John was the second most common name behind chart success, with 54 UK number ones, followed closely by David with 53 and Brian’s 43. The list continues with George, Mark, Peter, Tony, Andy and Shane. Ventura Barba from Yahoo! Music Europe said: “When you think of rock ‘n’ roll names, you instantly recall the unique ones like Bono, Prince and Slash. It’s surprising to discover that an everyday name can lay claim to such an accolade.”
