Vernon Kay poised to sign £2m ITV deal

Vernon Kay has landed a £2 million deal with ITV1 to front a chat show which will rival Channel 4’s popular Paul O’Grady show. The former model pitched ideas for the 5pm slot to ITV bosses, with his show expected to include chat, comedy and music. Kay is expected to sign the deal despite attempts by rivals the BBC to secure an exclusive deal with the Bolton presenter. It is thought the 33 year-old is hoping for a deal which will allow him to work with both broadcasters. A source said: “Vernon has bags of ideas and is really keen to do something in the 5pm slot. He went to ITV and they like the idea because they want to grow him into one of their main entertainment faces.” Meanwhile, ITV has lined up Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton - who plays Sean Tully in the soap - to host his own afternoon show. The programme will launch next month for five weeks, before Chris Tarrant steps in with a new gameshow for the slot.
