Goldie Cheung quits X Factor
Popular 'X Factor' contestant Goldie Cheung has quit the show, despite making it through to the final stages of the competition.
'X Factor' favourite Goldie Cheung has quit the show.
The wacky 49 year old was a hit with judges in last night's (24.09.11) Boot Camp episode, in which she performed a rendition of Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' but has become the first person ever to pull out after making it to the live stages of the show, reportedly because she feared being turned into a "joke".
Reports claim that Goldie's husband David Webb warned her that her quirky performances could turn her into a laughing stock, but programme bosses would only confirm she had departed for "personal reasons".
Goldie - who would have been mentored by Louis Walsh and had been due to move into the house shared by the 16 finalists last week - refused to speak about her decision and even denied quitting the contest.
She told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: "No, I haven't left the show. Who told you that? I haven't even told anyone that.
"I cannot speak to you. 'The X Factor' have told me I can't give any interviews."
Meanwhile, 24-year-old Sian Phillips has been forced to pull out of the show after she was refused a US visa.
The Scouse singer made the final eight in the Girls category, but had to leave the contest when it was discovered she had served a two-month jail sentence in 2009 for affray, meaning she was unable to get the necessary documentation to travel with mentor Kelly Rowland to Miami for the Judges' Houses stage.
Sian said afterwards: "I was so happy to get through Boot Camp and then absolutely gutted when I couldn't get a visa.
"I'm planning to re-enter next year because it wasn't my singing which held me back.
"My life's back on track now I have put my past behind me."
