Ricky Gervais' Idiot Abroad stitch-up
Ricky Gervais admits he ''stitched up'' Karl Pilkington on 'An Idiot Abroad 2: The Bucket List'
Ricky Gervais admits he "stitched up" Karl Pilkington on 'An Idiot Abroad 2: The Bucket List'.
The 'Office' star explained while Karl - who shot to fame following the first series of the Sky1 comedy travel show - thought he was choosing from a list of activities to do before you die, Ricky and his partner in crime Stephen Merchant were determined to cause mischief.
He told BANG Showbiz: "He had to choose seven or eight things from the Bucket List to do and then we just found that there were things that came up along the way. We just completely changed swimming with dolphins to swimming with sharks.
"We weren't being clever- we just stitched him up. Sometimes we know we can't tell him what he's doing, because he won't get up in the morning. I don't think he would have got in the shark cage if we would have planned it."
Ricky - who has been a friend of the radio producer since they worked together on XFM's 'The Ricky Gervais Show' - also hit out at claims Karl's witty one-liners are scripted.
He said: "How the f**k can it be scripted? They said that about the audio books, the podcasts, but how could the things he says be scripted?
"It's ridiculous. This is all planned behind his back. But not one thing he says his scripted, not one word."
The first episode of 'An Idiot Abroad 2: The Bucket List' - which sees Karl visit the South Pacific island of Vanuatu - is on Sky1 tonight (23.09.11) at 9pm.
