Nicky Clarke voted off 71 Degrees North
Celebrity hairdresser Nicky Clarke was ''genuinely hurt'' to be the first person voted off '71 Degrees North'
Nicky Clarke has become the first person voted off '71 Degrees North'.
The celebrity hairdresser picked up five votes from his fellow competitors, meaning he had to depart the gruelling contest, and admitted afterwards he was "genuinely hurt" by the decision.
He said: "My pride's been really, really knocked, and that doesn't happen to me very often. Maybe that's what I needed, but I'm genuinely hurt."
Sean Maguire picked up three votes and Amy Williams and Angelica Bell received one each, while the other celebrities didn't receive any.
Despite the decision, some of the contestants suspected there had been cheating involved in the decision, as all of Nicky's rival team voted to oust him ahead of their teammate Sean.
John Thomson said: "The rules said no discussion of eviction. I said, 'Are the red team psychic?' They suddenly all chose Nicky to protect Sean, it was obvious."
Lisa Maxwell added to Digital Spy: "Nicky had only ever been lovely all the way through - pulled his weight, did everything he could do."
The pair also promised viewers there will be further surprises later in the series.
Lisa said: "Lots of weird things happen that no-one can imagine. So much drama."
John added: "I would hate to have to edit this show because it's just immense, the amount of stuff."
'71 Degrees North' - which is hosted by Paddy McGuiness and Charlotte Jackson - airs on ITV1 on Tuesdays.
