'EastEnders' was the biggest winner at the TV Choice Awards last night (13.09.11).

The BBC series triumphed in the coveted Best Soap category, while its stars Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie - who play Kat and Alfie Moon - were honoured with the Best Soap Actress and Soap Actor prizes.

However, it's main rival 'Coronation Street' did not lose out at the ceremony, which was held at London's Savoy Hotel, with Paula Lane taking home Best Soap Newcomer for her portrayal of Kylie Platt, and the spectacular tram crash scenes, which honoured the soap's 50th anniversary, was recognised with Best Soap Storyline.

Another big winner was 'Doctor Who', which was named Best Family Drama and saw Karen Gillan - who plays Amy Pond - recognised as Best Actress.

However, Time Lord Matt Smith missed out on the Best Actor accolade, which went to his predecessor in the TARDIS David Tennant for his performance in 'Single Father'.

Other winners at the ceremony, which was hosted by Ben Miller, included Jamie Oliver, whose 'Jamie's 30 Minute Meals' was named Best Food Show, Jeremy Kyle, who scooped the prize for Best Daytime Show, and 'The Apprentice', which triumphed in the hotly-contested Best Reality Show category.

'Britain's Got Talent' pulled off a shock victory over 'The X Factor', 'Strictly Come Dancing' and 'Masterchef' in the Best Talent Show group, while 'The Cube' was named Best Game Show, 'Being Human' was Best Drama Series and 'Sherlock' was named Best New Drama.
