EastEnders' Dr. Yusef Khan will put his ex-wife Zainab Masood's life in danger when he secretly spikes her food with pills in order to control her

EastEnders' Yusef Khan will cause his ex-wife Zainab Masood to have an accidental overdose when he secretly spikes her food with pills.

The deceptive doctor - played by Ace Bhatti - has been determined to rekindle his flame with his former spouse for some time and when his bid to control her with large doses of sleeping pills fails, he decides to mix the tablets in to her food with devastating results.

Ace told Inside Soap magazine: "Yusef has been giving Zainab (Nina Wadia) sleeping pills but the quantity is bigger than it should be. He doesn't want to kill Zainab - he just wants to control her. But he goes way too far.

"Yusef fears that's he's losing his grip on her. He's been using the tablets to make her rely on him.He doesn't want her to die. [Mixing the pills in with her food] is a spur-of-the-moment act that backfires."

However, when Zainab collapses, Yusef knows he could be implicated and decides to make it look as if she took an overdose by placing the empty pill bottle in her hand and leaving her young son Kamil alone with the prone body of his mother.

Ace added: "Yusef has to make it look like she's trying to harm herself."
