John Barrowman is confident sci-fi show 'Torchwood' will return for another series following the success of the last run in both the UK and US

John Barrowman believes 'Torchwood' will return for another series.

The actor plays Captain Jack Harkness in the sci-fi series and after the success of the latest run, 'Torchwood: Miracle Day' - a British-American co-production between BBC Worldwide and the Starz Network - he is confident more episodes will get the go-ahead.

He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I hope they come back with a new series, but I have to wait. I haven't heard anything yet. I don't know when we will hear. I've been given a date but that date isn't upon us yet. So once I know I still won't be able to tell you but it means I then can plan out the rest of my year accordingly."

John believes the show - which is a 'Doctor Who' spin-off created by Russell T. Davies - was invigorated by the co-production because it meant there was more cash to splash on the episodes due to the involvement of the American network.

The 44-year-old star - who has just released a new album 'Tonight's the Night: The Very Best of John Barrowman' - added: "I know this year people were upset because they thought we sold out to the Americans.

"But the fact of the matter is that there wouldn't be a 'Torchwood' if it wasn't for the Starz Network. There was no money to do it - we had to do the collaboration. It's a very different situation because the money is there. They put the money into it, and that's not saying they don't put the money into the UK, but it's different."
