Katherine Kelly has landed the lead role in 'She Stoops to Conquer' which she will start after she leaves 'Coronation Street'.
The actress is to depart as feisty Becky McDonald from the ITV soap next January when screen husband Steve McDonald gets his ex-girlfriend Tracy Barlow pregnant.
Once she leaves the cobbled streets of Weatherfield, Katherine will head to the National Theatre in London's West End to take on a role very different to that of hellraiser Becky.
The 31-year-old star will portray Kate, the daughter of a wealthy businessman who is forced to pose as a maid to make a man fall in love with in the play which is set in the 18th century and written by Oliver Goldsmith.
Meanwhile, Nigel Havers is to make a dramatic return to 'Coronation Street' as gigolo and con artist Lewis Archer.
The cunning character defrauded book keeper Peter Barlow out of £4,000 and also planned to leave girlfriend Audrey Roberts bankrupt before having a last minute change of heart is coming back in 2012.
A source said: "Having Lewis back will set pulses racing, and there is bound to be trouble in store."
