'The Bill' star Trudie Goodwin is joining 'Emmerdale'.
The actress - who played Sergeant June Ackland in the ITV1 drama from 1984 until 2007, making her the show's longest-serving star - will play Charity Dingle's future mother-in-law Georgia Sharma, and she promises fans won't be disappointed.
Trudie - who starts filming next week and will be on TV screens from early November - said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be playing Georgia. She is difficult to please and set to make life difficult for Charity. I can't wait to get started."
Georgia - mother of Jai and Nikhil Sharma - will be joined in the Yorkshire Dales by business-mad husband Rishi (Bhasker Patel) and she wastes no time in making sure former prostitute Charity (Emma Atkins) is right for Jai (Chris Bisson).
A source said: "The Sharmas get their feet well and truly under the table in the coming months. Georgia is quick to take Charity to task, unsure that she is marriage material for her beloved eldest son."
The family's fun-loving daughter Priya will also return although she will be played by a new actress - Fiona Wade.
'Emmerdale' producer Stuart Blackburn said of the new arrivals: "I'm delighted to welcome Trudie, Bhasker and Fiona to the cast. There are plenty of trials in store for the Sharmas."
As well as making a name for herself on 'The Bill', Trudie, 59, is also known for being the mother of La Roux singer Elly Jackson.
