Ricky Tomlinson wants to appear on 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The 'Royle Family' actor - who plays the show's pivotal character Jim Royle - is interested in appearing on the BBC One talent show after being inspired by a couple while on a recent cruise to the Fjords of Northern Europe.
Speaking on ITV1 show 'Loose Women' he said: "We've just been on a cruise, it was absolutely fabulous, to the Fjords. My wife, Rita, took five suitcases, I took a little carrier bag.
"You were taking about ballroom dancing earlier, well, we were in the restaurant and they have the music going and people got up to dance and there was a couple there - I think they were from Liverpool - and they were wonderful.
"And I used to go ballroom dancing, I got my bronze. But Rita had a car accident and hurt her back and we had to stop, but when we saw these guys we decided we are going to start again.
"Would I go on 'Strictly...'? Well, I don't know. But I love it. I think I'd be older than anyone on it this series."
Ricky, 71, also confirmed he is set to start shooting the festive special of 'The Royle Family' shortly, although he has little idea what is in store for the show's eponymous family.
He revealed: "We're just about to do the Christmas one, so we'll probably get the script about two hours before, we haven't got a clue!"
The line up for this year's 'Strictly Come Dancing' was announced yesterday (06.09.11) and includes Alex Jones, Lulu, Robbie Savage, Holly Valance and Jason Donovan.
