MTV commissions second series of Geordie Shore
'Geordie Shore' is to return to MTV for a second series early next year, with a number of ''exciting twists'' introduced to the show's format
'Geordie Shore' is to return to MTV for a second series early next year.
The reality show - starring Holly Hagan, Jay Gardner, James Tindale, Sophie Kasaei, Vicky Pattison, Charlotte Crosby, Gaz Beadle and Greg Lake - will be documenting the lives, loves and drama of the debaucherous housemates in the first half of 2012, with a number of "exciting twists" to the format.
In a statement, the broadcaster said: "Audiences have been hooked on the show, which has become the highest-ever rated series on MTV.
"The show will be filmed once again in and around the North-East town famed for its lively nightlife and larger-than-life characters. It will be returning in early 2012."
'Geordie Shore' - based on US reality show 'Jersey Shore' - will be returning to screens with eight hour-long episodes, rather than the six featured in series one.
The programme's official twitter page revealed: "Proper mint news for #GeordieShore this morning....a second series has been confirmed!!!! Now you get 8x episodes!!!! #TapTap (sic)."
While the series secured viewing figures four times their usual average for a weekday 10pm slot on MTV, it divided the public, with people in Newcastle taking particular offence at the "stereotypical" way the show portrayed those from the North-East of England.
One viewer vented: "This show must be removed from TV. It's a disgrace to all the good hard-working Geordies. And as for their parents well! They want to be embarrassed to think they give birth to them and need to look at their parenting skills.
"If these people wish to do the things they do, then so be it. I'm sure they will be the most hated Geordies in the world. Was the five minutes of fame really worth it? I think not."
