Katy Perry has thanked fans for their support after equalling Michael Jackson's record of five chart-topping singles from the same album
Katy Perry says she "owes" fans after equalling a US chart record.
The 26-year-old singer thanks fans after her latest song 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)' topped the Billboard Hot 100 , making it the fifth track from her 'Teenage Dream' one album to top the charts - a record initially set by Michael Jackson with the singles from his 1987 album 'Bad'.
Upon hearing the news, Katy tweeted: "What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song 'LAST FRIDAY NIGHT' is officially #1 & made HISTORY! & u know, I couldn't have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG... so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!! #allbecauseofu (sic)"
The other chart-topping singles from Katy's third album, 'Teenage Dream', were 'California Girls', 'Firework', 'E.T.' and the record's title track.
Although Katy has taken a longer time to reach the record than Michael did, the tracks have spent longer at the top of the chart, with a total of 18 weeks so far.
She has also broken a record for the most weeks in the Billboard chart's top 10, with 66 weeks. The record was previously held by Swedish act Ace of Base, who clocked up 48 weeks.
